Terms of use
In short: keep your PIN to yourself, use the app only for your apartment, and remember that the app records payments but never handles money. Your apartment's bank statement is the final word on what was paid.
1. About these terms
These terms apply to the CommunitySetu app and the website apartmentconnect.site ("the service"), run on behalf of the colony by its administrators ("we", "us"). By registering or signing in, you agree to them and to our privacy policy.
2. Who can use it
- Residents aged 18 or over who live in an apartment of the colony, once approved by their apartment admin.
- Apartment admins, treasurers and watchmen whose accounts are created by the colony's admins.
You must give accurate details, including the flat you actually live in. Your apartment admin may reject or close a registration that isn't accurate.
3. Your account and PIN
- Your mobile number and 4-digit PIN are your sign-in. Keep the PIN secret and don't use an obvious one.
- You're responsible for what's done with your account. If you think someone knows your PIN, change it in the app or ask your apartment admin to reset it.
- A temporary PIN from an admin must be changed the first time you sign in with it.
- After 5 wrong PINs the account locks for 15 minutes. If it happens again the lock lasts longer (1 hour, then 24 hours); your apartment admin can reset your PIN to unlock it sooner.
4. Roles
What you can do depends on your role. Apartment admins approve residents and manage staff; the treasurer manages the apartment's bills, payment account and payment records; watchmen handle issues; residents pay bills and raise issues. People with these roles must use them only for running the apartment.
5. Payments
- The service does not process, receive or hold money. You pay maintenance directly to your apartment's account using your own UPI or banking app, or in person as your apartment allows.
- The app records bills and payments to help your apartment keep track. A UPI payment shows as paid only after the treasurer approves the UTR you submit.
- Check the UPI ID and payee name before you pay. We aren't responsible for payments sent to the wrong account, wrong amounts, or wrong or reused UTRs.
- If there's a disagreement about a payment, your apartment's bank statements and its own accounts decide. Raise it with your treasurer or apartment admin.
6. Acceptable use
Don't:
- register for a flat you don't live in, or pretend to be someone else;
- post anything unlawful, abusive, threatening or misleading in issues or announcements;
- share other residents' information outside the apartment;
- try to access data your role doesn't allow, break the security of the service, or overload it.
Apartment admins may remove content or disable accounts that break these rules.
7. What you post
You're responsible for the issues, replies and other content you add. You allow us to store it and show it to the people in your apartment who need to see it, as described in the privacy policy.
8. Availability and changes
The service is provided free of charge, "as is" and "as available". We try to keep it running and your data safe, but we can't promise it will always be available or free of errors. We may change or improve features over time.
9. Ending your use
You can stop using the service at any time and ask us to close your account (see the privacy policy for what we keep). Your apartment admin may archive your account when you move out, or disable it if these terms are broken.
10. Liability
To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for losses caused by payments, information entered by users, or events outside our control. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under Indian consumer law that can't be limited.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of India.
12. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, we'll update the date at the top and, for significant changes, tell you in the app. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the new terms.
